Princes Charles becomes oldest heir

Prince Charles will be the oldest heir to the throne in British history.

According to BBC News, the Prince of Wales will pass the current record-holder, William IV, who was crowned king in June 1830 at 64 years, 10 months, and five days.

The 64-year-old already holds the record for being the longest serving heir to the throne. He has been first in line to the throne since he was three and will eventually succeed his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

E! Online reports that the patient prince has no problem joking about his longstanding position of second in line to the throne. He laughed about the situation at his birthday party in November 2012.

“Impatient? Me? What a thing to suggest!” he said. “Yes, of course I am. I’ll run out of time soon. I shall have snuffed it if I’m not careful.”

Prince Charles’s son William is currently second in line to the throne, followed by his newborn son, George. William’s brother, Harry, holds the fourth in line position.
