Blonde Redhead - 23
- It certainly appears that Blonde Redhead’s entire new album, 23, is definitely a fine catch for the new year. With the new addition of 10 tracks and sound, and with titled songs such as “23,? “The Dress” and “Silently,” I can happily say the album sounds insanely fantastic!
Blonde Redhead started their journey in the early ’90s, which includes a lineup that features Japanese singer Kazu Makino, whose harmoniously textured vocals add a touch of ethereality to 23. Standing strong behind Makino, two twin Italian brothers, Amedeo and Simone Pace, master their roles on guitars and drums, respectively.
In the new album, it’s aware that ringing guitars have been replaced by the sounds of synthesizers and soft strings, while Makino's soft voice has become a “ghostly moan on the grandiose opener and title track of the New York trio's seventh full-length release, 23.”
Blonde Redhead's 23 is remarkably accessible when understanding the decision to move away from the Sonic Youth-generation noise rock wave, towards an alluring, often dark, pop sensibility.
The album is a bit depressing to listen to, due to its desperate lyrics and sounds, but it's also soothing sound to enjoy at the same time. It should also be recognized that the band's “decade-plus of experimentation has finally yielded a wonderful, sophisticated, multifaceted album.”
I assure you that 23 will hit all the right music vibes in your body.
