ABC picks up Ryan Phillippe series 'Secrets and Lies'

By Kyle Johnson,

Ryan Phillippe will be coming to television this fall after ABC put in a series order for his thriller Secrets and Lies on Friday.

The series order isn't too surprising as the 10-episode thriller came with a penalty attached should the network decided to pass on it, as previously reported. Secrets and Lies is based on an Australian series that hasn't premiered yet.

The thriller follows Phillippe as a father that finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation in which he is labeled the prime suspect after discovering the body of the victim, a young boy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Juliette Lewis also stars in the series as a police detective trying to solve the crime.

Barbie Kligman is executive producing the series with Aaron Kaplan, Nathan Mayfield and Tracey Robertson.

Secrets and Lies joins new pickups Astronaut Wives Club, The Club, American Crime, Forever and How to Get Away With Murder. ABC also renewed Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and picked up the Marvel series Agent Carter.

Carter will follow Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, and tell her story after she appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger.
