Queen Elizabeth II's guards take on 'Game of Thrones' theme song

By Kate Taylor ,

Queen Elizabeth II’s royal guards impressed onlookers on July 15 as they played a familiar tune.

The queen's guards are better known for their ability to keep a straight face than for surprising crowds with pop culture references. Of course choosing the Game of Thrones theme song seems like a no brainer given the regally dressed guards and Buckingham Palace backdrop.

According to Metro, the incident may have been inspired by the queen's recent trip to the award winning HBO series' set. Of course, the guards are not the only ones to create their own version of the song, which has a very diverse and infinite number of covers on YouTube.

In other musically related Game of Thrones news, according to Rolling Stone, DJ Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor in the series, announced plans for a Game of Thrones-themed Australian tour. The event aptly named “Rave of Thrones,” will include themed venues, and even a possible dress code for guests.
