Tina Fey to star in Disney witchcraft film, but it's not the 'Hocus Pocus' sequel you're hoping for

By Daniel S Levine,

Tina Fey has agreed to star in and produce a film for Disney centered on witchcraft and witches but it’s not the sequel to Hocus Pocus that some fans on the web are hoping for.

Sources for TheWrap and for The Hollywood Reporter both confirmed that the new project will not be related to the beloved 1993 Bette Midler movie.

This film is currently untitled and there is no writer on the project yet either, so obviously there are no plot details at the moment. That’s a bit strange, but considering this is Disney, the studio knows what kind of movies it wants to make in a genre and can get one made-to-order. Hopefully, having Fey attached in any capacity will get the project off on the right foot. THR reports that the studio is looking for a Ghostbusters tone.

Allison Shearmur (Cinderella) will co-produce with Fey and Fey’s Little Stranger.

Fey recently worked for Disney on Muppets Most Wanted. She is currently working on The Nest with Golden Globes co-host and best friend Amy Poehler. Last but not least, she’s producing Paramount’s The Taliban Shuffle, which Glenn Ficarra and John Requa will direct.
