Groovy! Austin Powers is set to return to the big screen sometime in the future. Director Jay Roach confirmed this during an interview with MTV News.
“Mike [Myers] is working on ideas for it, people are definitely talking about it and I'm all good for it,” Roach said. He said that Austin would be going “somewhere you haven’t thought of” in the next film.
This comes after years of speculation that Powers would be returning to the big screen. Three years ago Myers said at the Shrek The Third premiere that the movie was in development. The last news on the project came in July of 2008 when Myers did an interview saying that he was working on the script for the fourth installment and the movie was “really about Dr. Evil and his son. It should be released sometime in 2010.”
Well, it’s 2010 and the movie still isn’t here. It’s not unusual for comedies to have long gaps between them as evidenced by Little Fockers, which is set to be released this summer six years after Meet The Fockers hit theaters.
Verne Troyer, who played Mini-Me, has also been supportive of recent years of a fourth installment, encouraging Myers to speed up the process on a script. The last Austin Powers film, Goldmember, was released in 2002.
