Nick Carter gained fame as one of the members of the Backstreet Boys, and now, he's back in the spotlight with the group's concert tour with New Kids on the Block. TheCelebrityCafe.com's Ellen Stodola spoke to him about his long history in the music business as well as future plans for the group as well as his solo work.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: How did you all decide to get back together at this time?

Nick Carter: Well, something that I don’t think people realize is that The Backstreet Boys have had three albums in the past five years. We’ve also done three world tours. I think right now, there are so many new artists, and we’re not really in the mainstream. But we’re just really excited to be together making music.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: What are you doing now?

Nick Carter: We’re touring in the United States right now, and that tour will last until August 8. It’s great because we’re on stage with four new guys since we’re touring with New Kids on the Block, and it’s just great to have this new experience and make new memories.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: What made you decide to do the collaboration on “Don’t Turn Out the Lights” with New Kids on the Block?

Nick Carter: New Kids on the Block had originally asked us to do a guest appearance on their reunion tour in New York City, and it just sort of worked. “Don’t Turn Out the Lights” is great because it was something organic and it was as great way to bring the two groups together.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: Are you planning on keeping the Backstreet Boys together for the future?

Nick Carter: We’re definitely on the same page, and we’re moving forward and reaching so many people. We’re starting to talk about our next album as well.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: Do you have any plans for any other solo projects coming up?

Nick Carter: Well, I just released a solo album this year, and I plan on working on other solo work in between working with the Backstreet Boys and our touring.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: How have you survived for so long in the music business?

Nick Carter: I’ve just realized that you have to look forward. You have to let go of the past and just focus on the future and not reminisce too much.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: You and your brother, Aaron, have both had music careers. How important is family in this business?

Nick Carter: Family is really important, especially because the music business can be really tough at times and there are a lot of egos that get in the way. I just think that communication is the key.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: Is there anything that you want to get involved with the in future?

Nick Carter: I definitely want to do more solo albums. I’ve also been working on a screenplay and doing some producing and directing, so I definitely want to focus on that in the future.

TheCelebrityCafe.com: How do you feel that your past experiences affect your present and future in the music business?

Nick Carter: I think that it’s important to say that music is easy and sometimes even thoughtless. People shouldn’t have a doubt about who they can listen to. I think that right now, the Backstreet Boys are outsiders in the music business, but we just want to have fun and bring in new creativity. We’re busy, but that’s definitely a good thing. We’ve been together for about 18 years, but we’re always experiencing new things and growing.
