Tower Heist, directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand), is a star studded comedy about a bunch of rookie thieves attempting to steal from a Wall Street giant. Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) has been placed under house arrest for stealing nearly two billion dollars from his investors. Among the victims are the staff from his apartment building who trusted him with their pensions. Now these people, led by Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller), who have nothing left to lose decide to exact revenge by teaming up with petty crook Slide (Eddie Murphy) and together they will attempt to reclaim what is theirs, and them some.
Ben Stiller is always a sure hit at the Box Office with such huge successes under his belt as the Meet the Parents films, Night at the Museum films and such stand alone classics as Dodgeball, Zoolander and a personal favourite of mine The Royal Tenenbaums. Stiller is a man who doesn't fail to impress and cant seem to do anything wrong recently. His dry humour and easily angered acting style is something audiences have come to love, and this role seems to fit into that and so that is why I am looking forward to seeing him in this film, bringing his Stiller ways to what I can only see as being a Box Office success.
Now we haven't seen a great deal of Eddie Murphy for while, since 2009 when he played Evan in Imagine That, that is if we exclude Shrek Forever After as we didn't actually get to see him. But he is back and looks to be as funny as ever playing the petty criminal Slide. I am among the majority of people that really like Murphy, I find him hilarious. It could be said that Murphy may lack the ability for the more serious, hard hitting roles but I say is that a bad thing? Murphy seems to be one of the few people who are naturally funny, it seems to come easy for him, and if that is his greatest strength then I say play to it. From the footage I have managed to see of this film so far he is classic Murphy, a lot of laughs and a whole load of fun.
The supporting cast of this film is really something amazing, so many great comical actors such as Casey Affleck, Matthew Broderick, Tea Leoni and Michael Pena. With this kind of experienced and talented group of actors rounding off a great cast, I see no reason that this film will be anything less than a success. Also director Brett Ratner has had his fair share of big movies and I'm sure would have brought his wealth of experience to this film ready to impress.
So if you are a comedy fan or just looking for a film which doesn't require a whole lot of brain power but instead gives you a whole host of laughs and outlandish schemes then look no further. Tower Heist is in cinemas everywhere November 4.
