Seeing as through Christmas is in full swing, I decided to do something a little different. Instead of looking at what is worth the watch at the cinema this Christmas, I decided to recommend the three must see films this and every Christmas.
Starting off with Home Alone for obvious reasons. This film is a timeless comedy which seems to only get funnier the more you watch it. The best thing about this film is the pure simplicity of it. A young child thinking he is old enough to look after himself and wishing his family would just disappear. With the help of the family oversleeping and some confusion with the last minute head count, little Kevin gets his wish. Having the time of his life Kevin seems to even forget about his family, that is until two petty criminals decide to target his house ripe for robbery. From then on the film delivers a comical onslaught as a young boy comes up with a whole host of traps in order to protect his house and himself.
This film is just hilarious and good fun for the whole family. In my opinion there is nothing better than on Christmas day having the whole family sitting round the television with a full belly and having a laugh along to Home Alone.
The second film to watch has to be Scrooged starring a favourite comedy actor of mine, Bill Murray. This adaptation of A Christmas Carol sees cynical and selfish television executive Frank Cross as the Scrooge character. He is visited by three, not so typical, ghosts who attempt to show him the error of his ways. But Frank does not seem the type to be scared easily, instead he comes out with witty and sarcastic comments which is typical of Bill Murray. Yes the end result is the same as every other adaptation, but the journey is something unique.
I am a huge fan of Bill Murray, I find him hilariously quick witted and quirky. I love him in Scrooged as he takes an already established character, one of which has be recreated many times, and transforms him into something completely different. This is another film which I always enjoy watching on the run up to Christmas as it is indeed festive but with a modern day twist.
The third and final film on my list of films worth the watch each and every Christmas is The Muppet Christmas Carol. This is one of the most fun, lively and unique takes on A Christmas Carol. With a mix of humans and Muppets playing the characters and none other than Michael Caine playing Ebenezer Scrooge, it is no wonder this is my favourite Christmas film. Michael plays a wonderful Scrooge and Kermit the Frog plays Bob Cratchit which I think is hilarious.
Every Christmas Eve, The Muppet Christmas Carol is playing in my house. With a comical array of Muppets and the colourful and catchy songs they sing, it is truly a heartfelt film which offers fun for the entire family. Some of the jokes are aimed at an adult audience and only get funnier with age, whilst the children enjoy the colourful and lively Muppets themselves.
So there you have it, my top three films to watch this and every Christmas. If you haven't already, give them a try and I can grantee you will not be disappointed. After a few years who knows, you may be singing along to the Muppets yourself as I do. So Merry Christmas and enjoy!
