The big news coming out of the South Carolina Primary has undoubtedly been Stephen Colbert's "run" for the presidency and his attempt to get his name on the ballot. But on Tuesday, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum brought a little star power to his own campaign.
The stars of the TLC show 20 Kids and Counting Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar as well as some of their children appeared to speak in support of Santorum at an appearance. According to Fox Carolina, the Duggars, who share many of Santorum's strict Christian values, appeared to show their support for the candidate in front of a mostly Christian crowd.
"I think there is a strong contrast between two candidates," Jim Bob Duggar said. "Rick has always been a conservative. Mitt Romney has always come from a liberal background until he started running for president. So, I think we need to get behind the real conservative, because I know Rick will stand for what's right."
The New York Times reported that The Duggars have been campaigning for Santorum since before the Iowa primary, and hold many of the same social and political views as Santorum, "He has proven that he always stands for life," said Michelle Duggar, who, along with her family, is a strong advocate of Santorum's campaign platforms to ban abortion and same-sex marriage.
Santorum and his wife have seven children of their own, and addressed the topics of the threat of low birthrate and promoting population growth to prevent the decline of America, "We need to be a hopeful country that wants more children," he said. It seems like the Duggars are the perfect spokespeople for his platform.
The five Duggar children who were in attendance did their part to support their candidate as well, entertaining the crowd with their own versions of patriotic songs like "This is My Country," "This Land is Your Land" and "God Bless America."
