Wrath of the Titans, directed by Jonathan Liebesman, is the long awaited sequel to the Hollywood epic, Clash of the Titans. After defeating the monstrous Kraken Perseus settles down to a humble life of a simple fisherman raising his 10 year old son. Unfortunately this new life is short lived for a struggle for supremacy between the Titans and the Gods is about to reach boiling point and spill over onto this world. Life a Perseus knows it will be wiped out if he does not act. As his father Zeus is being drained of his powers the Titans are raising hell on earth. It is now up to Perseus to gather what few and reliable companions he can trust and take this fight to the enemy, in an attempt to rescue his father and life as he knows it.
Liam Neeson, who plays the God Zeus, has proven by his role in the first film that he is perfect for this job. His voice alone commands respect, I'm not entirely sure how to describe it but anyone who has heard Liam speak must know where I'm coming from, I hope. He has had some big roles in his career, but none so big as a God. We know what to expect from Liam's performances these days, whether that is a good or bad thing ill let you decide.
Sam Worthington is a relatively fresh face in Hollywood. He has climbed to fame recently and at quite a rate too. He first really burst onto the big screen back in 2009 in Terminator Salvation and gave a note-worthy performance indeed. From then on he has jumped from one blockbuster to another starring in such films as Avatar, Man on a Ledge and of course Clash of the Titans and with the unofficial announcement of his return in Avatar 2 amongst many other titles, he is a face we are going to be seeing a lot more of.
As for director Jonathan Liebesman, he is another relatively new face in Hollywood. With his first smash-hit back in 2006 with the gruesome The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning really landing him in good stead. He then goes on to direct The Killing Room, Battle Los Angeles and now of course Wrath of the Titans. So although a fairly fresh face on the scene he has picked up a deal of credit and respect with what films he has made in his short time. From what I have seen so far this film looks to be absolutely stunning. The visual effects are outstanding and battle scenes seem to be even better.
I know there were some mixed reviews in regards to Clash of the Titans but should a sequel really be judged, before being seen, by its predecessor. My answer is no, especially when the director is different and, in my opinion, an improvement. So I say go and see this film and judge it on its own merits and it does not look like you will be disappointed.
Wrath of the Titans is out in cinemas everywhere March 30.
