The CW has picked up Backpackers, a comedy web series, for the network's digital studio, CW Digital.

The web series was acquired from Canada’s Smokebomb Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Backpackers is about Ryan and Brandon, who are two friends trekking across Europe searching for Ryan's fiancée.

"The sale to CW Digital guarantees an exciting North American launch for Backpackers, representing a new opportunity for broadcast and digital media to come together to create content," Maggie Murphy, co-head of Shaftesbury U.S. in Los Angeles, said.

The series will also offer viewers an interactive choose-your-own-adventure style app, reports Mediacaster Magazine.

"We are delighted to have CWD on board with Backpackers. As one of several original digital series that Smokebomb has to offer, Backpackers represents the culmination of the best of television, interactive and social content," Jay Bennett, Vice President and Creative Director of Smokebomb Entertainment, said.

Backpackers is scheduled to shoot eight, six-minute episodes on location in Europe during the spring of 2013.
