Tricia Macke, a reporter with Fox 19 Cincinnati, apologized to Rachel Maddow after being suspended for making homophobic comments about the openly gay MSNBC host.
Macke posted comments last month, which have now been removed, on her Facebook page calling Maddow, "such an angry young man," and later adding, "I am sorry. I should have said antagonistic," after getting responses from some of her followers, reports E! News.
She was taken off the air on Sunday due to these comments and given a two-day suspension.
"Referring to Maddow as a 'man' because she is a gay woman is completely unacceptable for someone in the business of journalism," GLAAD stated on the situation as quoted by The Huffington Post.
GLAAD's president, Herndon Graddick, commented on the matter as well saying, "Macke owes an apology not only to viewers, but to young people in Ohio who are subjected to unfair bullying and harassment like this on a daily basis."
Macke issued an apology on Friday after GLAAD called on the station demanding she apologize.
"I recently posted comments on my personal Facebook page regarding cable news anchor Rachel Maddow which were insensitive and inappropriate. I apologize to Ms. Maddow and any others who may have been offended by my comments, as they do not reflect my firm beliefs in individual and equal rights, and they certainly do not represent the opinions or position of my employer WXIX-TV," she said in her statement which appeared on Fox 19's Facebook page.
Macke returned to anchoring Fox 19's 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on Tuesday.
