Dylan McDermott has joined the cast of Mercy, based on a story by author Stephen King.

Mercy is a fantasy horror film adapted from one of King's stories from his Skeleton Crew collection, reports Deadline. The short story was called Gramma and was first published in 1984 in the magazine Weirdbook.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is about two brothers who go along with their mother to take care of their grandmother but they have no idea that the grandmother is a witch who made an evil deal with the use of black magic years before.

McDermott will be playing a man who had a relationship with the brothers' mother long ago yet still has feelings for her despite being married now.

Peter Cornwell is directing the film and Jason Blum, McG and Mary Viola are producing. Aside from McDermott, the cast includes Chandler Riggs, Joel Courtney and Frances O’Connor.

McDermott is no stranger to horror, previously starring in the first season of FX's American Horror Story. He has recently returned to play a key role in the second season entitled American Horror Story: Asylum.
