Brett Ratner's Hercules is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 8, 2014.

Paramount and MGM, the two companies partnering on the film, announced the news on Wednesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hercules stars Dwayne Johnson as the title role and is based on Radical Studios' graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

The film takes place after Hercules has completed his twelve labors. The King of Thrace hires Hercules and a group of bloodthirsty mercenaries for hire he leads to train the king's army and they begin to realize how vacuous their endless fighting has been, reports The Wrap.

Ryan Condal adapted the screenplay along with revisions by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Executive producers include Peter Berg, Sarah Aubrey and Jesse Berger with producers Beau Flynn, Barry Levine and Ratner.

Johnson has already worked with Paramount on G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which will be released on March 29, 2013. His other upcoming films include Pain and Gain with Mark Wahlberg, opening April 26, 2013, and Universal's The Fast and the Furious 6, which opens on May 24, 2013, according to IMDb.
