Julianna Margulies, who currently stars on The Good Wife, appeared on Katie Wednesday and spoke about why she left ER in 2000 after the show's sixth season.
Margulies was leaving $27 million on the table and, even though Twitter wasn't in existence back then, the actress still dealt with public backlash for her controversial decision, reports The Huffington Post.
"I think it was more like, 'Who does she think she is? You don't walk away from $27 million, money is power, that's what we all want,'" she said explaining the type of comments she received.
The actress continued and talked about when she called her father in tears asking him why the public was so angry with her. He helped her realize why she was receiving such public criticism.
"He said it really eloquently. He said, 'Honey, you're saying no to the American dream,'" she said.
Margulies also spoke about her reason to leave ER during an interview with More in March.
"I'm a smart girl. I had a year's worth of work waiting and a mortgage completely paid at age 32. I was under no illusion that I was going to be some big movie star. My dad said, 'If you got hit by a bus tomorrow, were you living your life truthfully, or were you waiting to get rich?' If I died and my soul started leaving my body, would I be looking down going, 'You idiot. You could have gone to Prague, you could have been on Broadway'? Those are the things I wanted to do," she told the magazine, as quoted by Yahoo!.
