If Netflix’s revival of Arrested Development turns out to only be for one season, at least the company is allowing the producers to bring in as many returning stars as possible. Not only is Liza Minnelli coming back, but Ben Stiller will return to reprise his hilarious guest role.
Entertainment Weekly reported on Tuesday that Stiller will be back to play Tony Wonder. The character, who appeared in seasons two and three of the original series back, is a rival magician for GOB, Will Arnett’s character.
It’s still not clear how Wonder will find his way back into the Bluth family’s lives, but he will appear in at least one episode.
Arrested Development’s new season will feature plenty of other guest stars in addition to Stiller and Minnelli. Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Conan O’Brien, Isla Fisher, and John Slattery are also slated to make appearances.
The news that Stiller will be back comes just days after Netflix CEO Rex Reed referred to the new season as a “one-off,” although a spokesperson later said that there is still a possibility for more episodes.
“We're definitely planning to do more with them. We have first rights, so it's not like you'd see it anywhere else. We're absolutely hopeful there will be more,” a spokesperson told HitFix.
Arrested Development originally aired on Fox from 2003-2006.
Stiller is currently working on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and a sequel to Zoolander.
