This episode entitled “Conditions of Existence”, focused on Beth, Sarah, and Allison’s partners and their roles in the clone plot.
The episode starts off with Helena (the Ukrainian Clone) being cleaned up by a man. Allison and Sarah talk via Skype about Beth/Sarah leaving the police force. Sarah also thanks Allison for seeing Kira as well. Paul sneaks up on Beth/ Sarah while she was taking a shower. Then the two have sex in the shower. Afterwards, Paul asks Beth/Sarah to pack up and leave with him to Rio de Janerio.
We see that Sarah was visited by doctors as she slept next to Paul. The next day she finds a medical tab in her mouth when she was brushing her teeth. Then she headed to Felix’s place to talk to Cosima and Allison. We find out that the medical tab was an electrode that was monitoring brain activity. They find out that all of their partners are monitoring them.
They also find out that Beth was keeping surveillance on Paul. So Beth/Sarah decides to go to his office. She hooks up a listening device underneath his desk in order to spy on him. Felix could hear and the monitor the device from his laptop. This will play an important role later. Allison also decides to spy on her mate as well. After looking through some drawers, she finds porn and a black box in the garage. After a brief talk with Sarah/Beth, Paul begins to suspect something when he sees that Beth/Sarah does not have a scar on her neck.
Meanwhile, Cosima gets a geeky lab student to analyze the DNA samples. She also takes notice in a hot French girl in distress. She sees her in the hall and returns a report card to her that she left in the lab. We see that she likes her. Also, Sarah visits Kira and her foster mom Mrs. S. Sarah wants to know everything about her past but Mrs. S does not share. Felix also hooks up with the mortician.
Allison decides to go to a spy shop to get some equipment. When she comes up of the store, Vic sees her and he thinks it is Sarah. He got his finger cut off because Sarah stole some drugs and he has to pay for it. He confronts her and Allison pepper sprays him.
Then Sarah goes over to Felix’s. She finds out that he is hooking up with the morgue attendant after witnessing the two talking. Inside, she scold him then the two listen to the recordings and found out that Paul was monitoring Beth but he does not know everything yet. They find out that Paul was spying on Sarah while she was walking Kira home. While all of this is going one, Vic comes over asking for money. He tells Sarah that he loves her and that he cried when she died. Sarah gives him $20,000 that Allison gave her and she tells him to walk.
Then Felix asks: “Is every man in her life a complete wanker except for him”. Then Allison finds out that her partner was hiding porn in the box and we see her partner burning papers in a wooded area.
Cosima calls Sarah to tell her not to kill Paul and play along. Sarah enters the home and Paul tells her that he knows that Sarah is not Beth. So Sarah tells him the truth, sort of. She tells him that she is Beth’s sister. She tells him about her wanting to clean out Beth’s accounts. Sarah also tells him that she knows about the monitoring that has been going on. He said that he does not know why they monitor “people”. Then the episode ends
This episode was phenomenal. The plot is a winding tower of never-ending joy. I like the show more and more after each episode. Since Doctor Who has been a disappointment and slightly mediocre thus far; Orphan Black makes up for it. Here is a trailer for the next episode:
