America knows the 29-year-old Sean Lowe as this season’s Bachelor. The unassuming, quintessential family man brought romance and Christian ideals to his quest for love on the famed ABC reality show. Hearts soared around the nation when he was successful in finding his perfect match and future wife, a graphic designer named Catherine Giudici.
Sean has now exchanged his roses for dancing shoes. Staying within the ABC network, he has emerged on the sixteenth season of Dancing with the Stars, where he is competing with partner Peta Murgatroyd against other celebrity teams.
The Bachelor’s Sean Lowe took time out of his extremely busy training schedule to talk with TheCelebrityCafe.com about his surprising diet for Dancing with the Stars, the Murgalo phenomenon, his taste in music, and the upcoming Warrior Dash.
TheCelebrityCafe.com: Congratulations on all of your success thus far with Dancing with the Stars. What has been the most memorable moment backstage that the cameras didn’t capture?
Sean Lowe: Peta and I... We always dance around in a very goofy way to get rid of the nerves we have before we dance. I would say that’s it, and I’m surprised the cameras haven’t captured it yet but we just kind of jump around and act like idiots.
TCC: What has been your favorite dance so far that the two of you have performed on the show?
SL: I would say the cha-cha is my favorite so far just because we had a blast performing it. We were lucky enough to do the encore performance on Tuesday so I think that’s been my favorite so far.
TCC: Fans are flocking to “The Murgalo.” How did this dance move emerge?
SL: Peta and I were messing around one day and just acting goofy like we normally do and we were doing the inchworm across the floor. A picture was taken when we were both at the half position in the inchworm and that is where “The Murgalo” started. We thought the picture was hilarious, posted it, and got a huge response. And then we thought we would start doing “The Murgalo” in strange places. It has caught on. Now everyone on Twitter is uploading pictures of themselves doing “The Murgalo” which is really cool.
TCC: Have there been any stand-outs of the pictures that people have sent you doing “The Murgalo”?
SL: Yeah, there have been a lot of stand-outs. Someone did it on the Eiffel Tower. Someone did it in the Grand Canyon. I’ve seen a lot of pictures of babies and dogs doing it. I saw one studio full of ballerinas- they were probably six years old- they were all doing it. So, there have been a lot of cool pictures.
TCC: What songs would be on your playlist when you want to let loose and dance?
SL: I like a bit of everything. When Peta and I dance around and act like idiots, we put on Calvin Harris. He has a lot of good dance music.
TCC: Have you ever or would you ever want to go to any of the music festivals he has been in?
SL: I’m not really a music festival guy, so I’ve never been to one.
TCC: I heard this weekend you’re participating in the Warrior Dash which is an obstacle course race. Can you tell me more about that?
SL: The Warrior Dash is a really cool race. I did my first Warrior Dash two years ago in Dallas. Basically, it’s a 5k over uneven terrain and there are obstacles all along the way and it’s really a cool activity you can do with your friends. When I did it a couple of years ago, me and all of my buddies dressed up in silly costumes, we went out there, we competed hard, and we just had a blast doing it. It was really physically challenging. Once the race was over, we got to hang out and have food, beer, and a band performed. It’s a fun activity and it’s not something that only the most physically fit people can do. Anyone can do it and I’m glad that I can participate tomorrow here in Southern California.
TCC: Is anyone going to be there with you tomorrow for support?
SL: Tomorrow, I’m running solo. It’s just going to be me.
TCC: Given you already have a packed schedule with Dancing with the Stars, how did you find time to train?
SL: I didn’t. I’ve only been dancing this week. Hopefully the cardio that’s involved in dancing will get me through the Warrior Dash tomorrow.
TCC: Hopefully at least your dieting patterns will carry over. Have they kept you on a strict regimen for DWTS?
SL: No. I mean- you would think so. I’ve eaten a lot of junk food just because you burn so many calories throughout the day and you need the energy. I’ve been indulging in just about everything you can indulge in.
TCC: Not a bad way to live! I read that you were using Hydroxycut, a dietary supplement sold as a weight loss and fat reduction aid- is that helpful?
SL: Yeah, I have been. I use it for the energy. I’ll take it before I go to rehearsal. It gives me that burst of energy to make it through practice.
TCC: We're rooting for you on Dancing with the Stars. We’ll be watching and voting. And good luck tomorrow at the Warrior Dash.
SL: Alright, thank you. Nice to talk to you.
