While Friday Night Lights did start as a movie before it became an NBC drama, there is always interest among fans of the show for a new film that would reteam the cast of the show. Connie Britton, one of the show’s stars, was asked at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner if she would be interested in doing a movie.
“I would love it to happen,” the Nashville actress told E! News. “I'm a big supporter of it happening. I don't know if we will see it or not.”
As The LA Times notes, the show centered on the life of a high school football team and its coach, played by Kyle Chandler, and ran on NBC and when the network nearly cancelled it, the fans begged for another season. Eventually, they were rewarded with an extra season on DirecTV, but the show ended in 2011.
Since then, Britton has always been asked about a film. “I know it was being written and [executive producer] Peter Berg is really serious about it, so I think if everybody got on board, I don't see why we couldn't have a movie,” Britton said.
Of course, both Britton and Chandler are busy with new projects. Britton stars on ABC’s Nashville, which has won critical praise and could get renewed by the network, while Chandler has taken on feature film roles. He starred in both Argo and Zero Dark Thirty last year and will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Chandler has laos been cast in the showtime pilot The Vatican.
