Maria Shriver has landed a role for NBC News as a special anchor geared towards women’s issues. She won’t be restricted to one program, as she will report across all NBCUniversal platforms of NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC as well as NBC Sports.
Shriver previously worked for NBC from 1986 until 2004 and she’s an award winning journalist, having won a Peabody Award. She will be reporting on the specific issue of the modern woman and how gender roles of power have shifted over the years.
”I’ve always believed that television can inspire and elevate humanity, and that’s my mission with this new partnership,” she said in a statement, EW reports.
”I look forward to shining a light on all areas of a woman’s experience – from faith and finances, wellness and work, to relationships and the new realities of modern life– and exploring these issues in a way that brings the voices of men into these critically important conversations.”
USA Today reports that Shriver never actually wanted to leave NBC, however, when her former husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, became governor of California in 2003, she had to give it up.
News of Shriver’s new role was announced on the Today Show this morning. She tweeted after that:
