Some have called Quentin Tarentino’s latest film, Django Unchained, his best work since Pulp Fiction. Nominated for four Academy Awards (Tarentino won the Oscar for best screenplay and Christoph Waltz received the Academy Award for his work in the film), Tarentino turned the Western genre on its head in this revenge-fantasy. Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave-turned-vigilante, searches for his wife and vows to rescue her from the clutches of plantation owner, Calvin Candie (played by Leonardo DiCaprio).

The film was recently released on DVD and Blu-Ray, so we’ve taken the time to make a list of our favorite moments from the movie. Despite the serious nature of slavery that the movie addresses, Tarentino seamlessly interweaves humor throughout the whole film. Although some critics have objected to the prolific use of the N word within the script, Tarentino defended his work and did not apologize. The movie, in contrast to the more historically accurate portrayal of slavery through the lens of the bureaucracy in Lincoln, depicts a fearless slave exacting revenge on those who oppressed him. Although Django can get spectacularly bloody at some points (no more than any other Tarentino movie), it is definitely an entertaining watch.
