Universal has pushed back the production on Jurassic Park 4, which had been scheduled for release in June 2014.
In statement this afternoon, the studio said that it and the filmmakers decided to “release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date.”
It said that the move was necessary to ensure that JP fans and audiences get the “best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise.” They are still “excited” to work with Colin Trevorrow, adding, “we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise's storied history.”
Jurassic Park 4 was confirmed in January and was set for a June 13, 2014 release date. Trevorrow, whose only previous feature experience is the indie sci-fi comedy Safety Not Guaranteed, was hired in March. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the team behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes, wrote the script. Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall are producing.
Trevorrow is already in Hawaii preparing for production and has been keeping fans up to date on Twitter. Last month, he retweeted a message from Marshall that they have consulted with paleontologist Jack Horner. Just last week, he tweeted a beautiful picture with the title “Nublar,” leading fans to believe that the film will take place on Isla Nublar, the setting for the first JP film.
