For the first time this spring, American Idol had to face The Voice on the same night Wednesday. The Voice barely came out ahead in the key ratings demographic and both singing competitions were down from their last episodes.

Fox won the night with 10.83 million viewers and a 2.8 18-49 rating average for Idol’s two hours. However, the show’s first hour drew a 2.5 key demo rating, which was barely behind The Voice’s 2.7 rating in the same hour. According to Deadline, Idol dropped 3 percent from last week’s Wednesday show and another series low. Looks like changing the show’s judging panel for next year is a good idea.

According to HitFix, CBS had the second-most viewers with 9.66 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating. Survivor picked up 9.33 million viewers and a 2.5 18-49 rating, which tied Idol for the hour. Criminal Minds had just under 10 million viewers and a 2.5 18-49 rating, while CSI had 9.73 million and a 2.2 rating.

NBC had 7.53 million viewers and a 2.1 18-49 rating. The Voice had 8.73 million viewers and a 2.7 18-49 rating, which did beat Idol, but was also a season low. According to THR, the show did help Law & Order: SVU have a good night with a 1.9 18-49 rating and 9.6 million viewers. Chicago Fire was up to 6.89 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 rating.

ABC was at the bottom with 6.13 million viewers and a 1.9 18-49 rating. The Middle kicked things off with 6.7 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 rating, while Family Tools had 4.4 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating. Modern Family reached a season low 8.84 million viewers and a 3.1 18-49 rating. How To Live With Your Parents scored 6 million viewers and a 1.9 key demo rating, while Nashville had just 5.42 million and a 1.6 rating.

Over at The CW, Arrow had 2.56 million viewers and a 0.9 18-49 rating, the same as Supernatural, which had 2.11 million viewers.
