Amazon hasn’t officially said which of its first 14 pilots will get picked up to series, but one of them will definitely not be Zombieland, the pilot based on the cult film. Rhett Reese, the show’s co-creator and the co-writer for the film, tweeted that fans of the film had been against it from the beginning and “hated it out of existence.”
“Our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on Amazon. Sad for everyone involved,” Reese tweeted last night. He later added that, “I'll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence.”
In a third tweet, he wrote, “Anyway, we did our best, and we're very proud of our team.”
The Amazon pilot has the same plot and style of the 2009 film, which took a humorous look at a zombie apocalypse. It featured the same characters, but since Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin were not going to do it, all the parts were recast with relatively unknown actors.
However, The Los Angeles Times notes that many of the same people behind the camera returned, including the writers and make-up and visual effects artists.
So far, there have been a few good reviews, but one reviewer called it a “poor man's version of the original.” It has averaged 3.5 stars out of five.
Anyway, we did our best, and we're very proud of our team.
