On the season finale of “American Dad”, titled, “Da Flipity Flop”, there were quite a bit of hijinks as we have been set to expect from Seth Macfarlane’s brainchild. In the episode, we follow two quite different storylines, one featuring Stan and Klaus, and the other featuring Roger and Steve.
In the smaller story line of Roger and Steve, we see that Roger starts a gym in the attic and tries desperately to get Steve to join. After trying harder and harder, and leaving several threatening phone calls, Steve finally gives in and signs up for a trial run month long membership. Once he goes to his first trial run day at the gym, he finds out that the gym has been transformed into a Chinese restaurant, where he is forced due to a clause in his membership contract, to be a bicycle delivery boy.
Now, with the second and main storyline in the episode, we turn our focus towards that of Stan and Klaus. The episode starts out with some scientists finding a body buried in the snow, only to find out that the body belongs to that of Klaus before he became a fish. We also learn that Klaus used to be a professional skier for the East German national team. Klaus desperately asks Stan to take him to be put back in his body, but Stan blows him off. After a while though, and Klaus’s many attempts of suicide, Stan agrees to take him to be put back in his body, but his body has started to decompose. Klaus, in a fit of rage knocks out Stan and switches bodies with Stan. In a way to show Stan what he wants to do to his perfect body, he starts to do dangerous things including smoking, rubbing dead animals on his face, having unprotected sex with a hooker, heroin, and getting a tattoo of elephant tusks on his groin. Finally, Klaus tells him that he is going to try an impossible jump called the “Flipity Flop” in Stan’s body. Stan in a fit of revenge decides to get out of the fish body and into Klaus’s decomposing body to stop him. After stopping Klaus, a feebled Stan pulls off the trick and nearly dies. In the end though, they all switch back the right bodies and everything goes back to normal.
All in all, this was a pretty typical finale for “American Dad”. It is sad that we will not see what happens with the Haley and Jeff storyline until next time, but that gives us the opportunity to relive the Roger hijinks with the glorious “Netflix”.
