American Idol might need a miracle for it to be saved, considering new competition from NBC’s The Voice, and they’re reportedly eyeing past contestant and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson as a new judge.
The show, which saw Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban in the judges seat this past season will reportedly get a complete makeover next season. Sources even say executive producer Nigel Lythgoe will get fired.
Hudson, who made an appearance on the season finale, has reportedly been offered one of the judging spots for Season 13, sources tell The Wrap.
"She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [the show's production company] Fremantle," a source said.
Fox executives are reportedly also considering Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson.
"The show's producers feel they've lost their core audience,” said the source. "And they want to bring back former contestants in order to tell their core audience, 'We love you.' They know they've made some major mistakes over the past few seasons and they want to make it right with their fans."
Jackson has already confirmed he won’t be back, however, Minaj, Carey and Urban’s future with the show isn’t certain.
