Angie Everhart has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and will undergo surgery on Tuesday. The model and actress confirmed the diagnosis in a statement to Extra this week.

“Word has been trickling out about supermodel/actress Angie Everhart’s health,” the statement reads. “She wants to set the record straight by letting everyone know that it is true that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, however, the prognosis is very good."

After her surgery today, she “expects to be back to work and to mommy duties in a few weeks,” the rep continued.

“The most important reason she is revealing this information is to encourage people to learn about cancer prevention, its signs and treatment immediately,” and she "wants to thank everyone who has heard about it and expressed their support."

The Huffington Post notes that Everhart, 43, shot to fame as a teenager, gracing the covers of such magazines as Elle and Glamour and moving on to Sports Illustrated.
