A bidder at the Cannes Film Festival paid $1.5 million to go to space with Leonardo DiCaprio on Thursday night at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS charity dinner at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc.
The bidder won a ticket aboard the Virgin Galactic and his seat is next to the The Great Gatsby star. A second bidder paid almost $2.3 million for another seat on the same flight just minutes later.
Before the bidders bought the tickets, Harvey Weinsten told The Hollywood Reporter, “We're going to get someone to bid on a seat next to him," referring to DiCaprio. Richard Branson is heading the trip and the auction booklet described it as a "once-in-a-lifetime trip to space with a mystery guest,” and referred to it as an “Oscars experience.”
According to E! Online, DiCaprio was involved in another auction, which saw a bidder paying $2.3 million for tickets to the premiere of his upcoming movie Wolf of Wall Street, an invite to the after party and a weekend at the Beverly Hills Hotel, a Chopard watch, and more tickets to exclusive parties.
