Billy Crystal is bringing 700 Sundays, his hugely successful autobiographical show, back to Broadway in the fall.
700 Sundays was a huge success when it premiered in 2004, notes Variety. The solo show played at the Rialto during its original run, grossing nearly $1 million in a week. Crystal won a special theatrical experience Tony award in 2005 and toured North America and Australia.
According to Playbill, the new production will be directed by Des McAnuff. It was written by the legendary comedian with Alan Zweibel. Producers include Janice Crystal, Larry Magid and Face Productions. Previews will start on Nov. 5 at the Imperial Theatre, with opening night scheduled for Nov. 13. The final show is set for Jan. 5, 2014.
“700 Sundays has, without question, been the most satisfying experience of my career,” Crystal stated. “When we originally opened on Broadway, all I knew was that I had a story that I was compelled to share. Now that I’ve performed my play across the country and internationally, I’m gratified to know that the love of family, through joy and pain, is perhaps the most universal story. I’ve now decided to tell this story one last time in my own backyard, where it all took place. It is a privilege to return to Broadway to say goodbye to one of the greatest thrills of my life.”
Crystal recently starred in Parental Guidance and returned to voice Mike Wazowski in Pixar’s Monsters University, which opens on June 21.
