After debuting April 18th and even previewing earlier before that, ‘Jekyll & Hyde’, will be making an early Broadway exit leaving May 12, which is nearly 7 weeks earlier than it was supposed to.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it has scored zero Tony nominations and failed to break the surface of the $500,000 mark in its first 4 weeks out. There was a count of only 48% audience capacity which was added up only last week.
In an attempt to be a renewal of the 1886 novella of The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,Jekyll & Hyde starring American Idol contestant, Constantine Maroulis as Jekyll & Hyde, Deborah Cox as prostitute, Lucy Harris, and veteran Teal Wicks as Jekyll’s fiancée, the play will close at the Marquies Theatre after playing only 30 shows, and 15 previews May 12th, according to News Observer.
The original Jekyll & Hyde hitting its broadway debut in 1997 had an account of 1, 543 performances and up to four tony nominations landing a 4 year span on broadway being of the most successful shows for World renowned composer Frank Wildhorn.
Although, Deborah Cox has been nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non- classical, at the Grammy’s and former American Idol contestant, Constantine Maroulis, has been nominated for a Tony Award after starring in the hit, Rock of Ages, The duo’s attempt to capture the audience in a revival of Jekyll & Hyde, was deemed non succesful.
