Just outside and on the curb of infamous singer Chris Brown’s Hollywood Hills Home rests a disturbing monster painting with which his neighbors aren’t too thrilled.
The monsters are 8 feet tall from the driveway and are colored in bright neon. They have big wide open eyes and thick white teeth.
Along Rinaconia Drive neighbors say the menacing looking paintings are scaring their children.
The President of Hollywood Dell Civic Association, Patti Negri stated according to L.A. Times , “There are lots of babies, lots of children, and they're literally frightened. It's like devils on the wall — big scary eyes and big scary teeth, and just the whole vibe is not what we're used to.”
Negri also added that the community is tired of Brown’s excessive loud parties and fast cars.
Due to the numerous complaints from residents in the neighborhood, Los Angeles city code officials fined Brown for the unpermitted signage starting at $376. Officials have also ordered Brown to remove the paintings within 30 days.
"They jump right out at you. They aren't just at the curb by the bins. It is all the way up the side of the house," said Councilman Tom LaBonge according to L.A. Times .
It hasn’t helped Brown’s image in the neighborhood following his 2009 arrest after his Grammy awards ceremony for assaulting Rihanna said FOX News.com .
Brown’s Attorney, Mark Geragos, said the entertainer won’t back down and will have a legal fight as he believes his murals to be artwork.
Geragos agrees with Brown and believes the City Officials are suspending the 1st Amendment. “They've called animal control. They have sliced parking [enforcement] on him, and now they reached the heights of ridiculousness here; shame on them,” Geragos said angrily based on L.A. Times .
Although, Geragos may have an argument, the City Ordinances make it illegal to create murals on the majority of private properties and Brown’s artwork was mainly done illicitly.
Brown was not the first celebrity to cause havoc in a community. In the 90’s Madonna caused issues when she painted her home with red and yellow stripes out of protest. Lindsey Lohan was unwelcomed in her neighborhood when she had hordes of paparazzi at her front door and for speeding. Residents of Calabasas complained about Justin Bieber’s entourage for always racing in the suburban streets.
Negri hopes that Brown can accept the city laws and pay the fines adding from L.A. Times , “I know a $300 fine is probably pocket change. But hopefully and maybe, he'll just see the light and decide to be a good neighbor.”
