The new-look CNN under Jeff Zucker is going to include more original programming as the cable news network continues to try to draw viewers. Today, CNN announced another new series titled Chicagoland, which will be produced by actor/director Robert Redford.

Chicagoland will launch in early 2014 and will include an initial eight episodes about Chicago. The series will focus on the work going on in Chicago after the economic collapse. It will look at the problems in the educational system, neighborhood safety and other challenges Chicago officials face every day.

“The vibrant culture and opportunities inherent in this 21st century, world-class city run alongside profound daily challenges,” Redford said in CNN’s announcement. “Much of it falls on the shoulders of its tough, visionary mayor, his team and people doing heroic work in neighborhoods throughout the city.”

Redford added, “Chicago has always had a rhythm all its own. It’s a city that wears its heart on its sleeve and I am honored to be a part of telling this story.”

Chicagoland will be executive produced by Redford and Laura Michalchyshyn for Sundance Productions, along with BCTV’s Marc Levin and Mark Benjamin. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levin and Benjamin previously worked with Redford and sundance on Brick City, a film on the challenges faced by Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker.
