Considering the success of Arrow and Smallville, it makes sense that The CW is looking to bring another DC Comics character to the small screen. They’ve picked Wonder Woman as its next subject, but that character has had a rocky relationship with Hollywood. Word surfaced last fall that a prequel series was in the works and other than getting a writer hired, it has gone nowhere.

However, The CW isn’t giving up on Amazon - the title of the project - yet. A new writer has been hired and the series is being redeveloped.

When we last heard about Amazon, casting was underway and Allan Heinberg (The OC, Grey’s Anatomy) had done a pilot script. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CW president Mark Pedowitz could only tell reporters at January’s press tour panel that Wonder Woman was still being cast and they hadn’t seen the script yet.

During today’s upfront presentation, Pedowitz said that getting the show on air is a priority. Heinberg was also replaced by Heroes writer Aron Eli Coleite.

“It is being redeveloped, we're waiting for the script to come in; we haven't seen it yet,” Pedowitz explained. “We are preparing to pilot it off-cycle should the script be what we want it to be. We do not want to produce something that doesn't work for that particular character -- it is the trickiest of all the DC characters to get done.”

According to EW, the series’ will look at Diana’s teenage years. When news that casting had started came out, the comic book community was buzzing because the casting sheet reportedly called the main character Iris instead of Diana. But Heinberg, who was still working on it at the time, assured fans that Diana will stay Diana.

Calling Wonder Woman the “trickiest” DC character to do is a bit of an understatement. While Lynda Carter’s show was a hit in the ‘70s, NBC’s 2011 pilot fizzled and the character has never made it to the big screen despite attempts.
