Actress Debra Messing continues to feel guilty about the end of her 10-year marriage, and how it will affect her growing son.

Messing recently opened up about her divorce from writer Daniel Zelman. The couple filed for divorce in June 2012. The Smash star told More Magainze that she feels sad that she and Zelman were not able to make it work after a decade of marriage.

“We both wanted it to last forever, and it's a sad thing that it wasn't able to go the course,” Messing said, reported by The Daily Mail .

Messing said that long distance was what put a wrench in her union with Zelman. Messing filmed in New York while her now ex-husband wrote in Los Angeles. Though the actress continues to feel guilt, she says now that she is dedicated to raising her son, Roman, as peacefully as possible with Zelman.

People Magazine reports that Messing’s guilt stems from the dreams she had for her son.

“Part of me will always contend with guilt that I wasn't able to give my son the fantasy that my parents were able to give me,” the 44-year-old actress revealed before adding that she and Zelman have managed to make co-parenting work.

“We had Thanksgiving together,” Messing said. “In my mind, we will be a nuclear family forever.”

Messing's cover of More hits newsstands May 28.
