Disney made two exciting announcements Tuesday. First, Disney announced that Brave’s own Merida has officially been dubbed a princess, and followed with the announced that Disney has found a princess in Downton Abbey’s Lily James who is set to play Cinderella.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the live action retelling of the classic fairy tale will star James alongside Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.
Kenneth Branagh is set to direct.
E! News reports that Disney has also announced that Merida will be named the 11th princess.
Inside the Magic reports that Merida will be a part of a special coronation ceremony slated for May 11. The crowning will take place at Walt Disney World.
Merida will be the first princess from Pixar to be added to the lineup of Disney royalty which includes the likes of Snow White, Mulan, Aurora, Belle, Tiana, Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Rapunzel.
The crowning will take place at the theme park at 9:30a.m. All guests are invited.
