Star Trek: Into Darkness actress Zoe Saldana is defending her sexy Allure magazine cover shoot after the magazine came under fire for boasting her across the magazine's cover.
Starpulse reports that viewers put the magazine cover on blast after splashing Saldana's weight of 115 pounds across its cover. Those bashing claimed that boasting about Saldana's weight only made things harder for young women struggling with weight issues.
Saldana discussed the controversy surrounding the cover this morning on Today saying, “I think that it would have been wrong if they were lying about my weight. This is how much I weigh, it's something I can't control, it's who I am, I've always been of a very thin frame - I was a ballet dancer.
Continuning she explains, "They [editors] wanted to do it, I don't think it was to make an issue of my weight," she says, "I think it was to talk about that, for a light-weight person, I seem to be really strong-minded."
The magazine also defended their decision to boast about the actress by posting a statement on their Facebook.
“There’s been some talk around the blogosphere about the cover line for our story about Zoë Saldana,” “115 Pounds of Grit and Heartache,” the statement begins. “The girl is a powerhouse. And we were so impressed by what a tough, confident woman Saldana is (on-screen, in her action-movie roles, and off) that we wanted to capture that. But some people have said citing her weight on the cover was a mistake.”
