Former MLB all star Jose Canseco is at the center of a Las Vegas rape investigation. Canseco took to Twitter to declare his innocence and even called out the alleged victim by name.
The Las Vegas Sun reprots that Canseco was notified by Las Vegas Metro police that he is a suspect in a reported sexual assault. He did agree to an interview, but it has not taken place yet and the former baseball player is headed to Fort Worth, Texas. “He’s being investigated for an alleged sexual assault, and that’s it,” Metro Sgt. John Sheahan told the paper.
According to TMZ, the alleged victim claimed that the incident took place on May 10.
After speaking with police, Canseco, 48, took to Twitter to say that he is innocent and used the person’s name. "[The accuser] told police that I druged [sic] her and then raped her. hmmmmm. lets find out what really happened,” he said in one tweet.
But, The New York Post, which did not publsihed the victim’s name, notes that this was only the start. Canseco, who is known for sending odd tweets, went on a rant. He said that he would take a polygraph test to “to get the ball rolling.” In another, he wrote, “All media welcome to this drama filled event. Did i rape [Name withheld] or is she lieing. Stay tuned to another day in the life of jose canseco.” The Post reports that he also posted a picture of the woman.
Canseco has since deleted all of these tweets. All that remains is one message that reads, “Who wants to spend a day with jose. Come into my world if u can handle it.” His last tweet reads, “Lets play truth or dare. I dare [the victim] to tell the truth.”
Canseco has a contract to coach the minor league team the Fort Worth Cats, which starts its season Thursday night. He is a former MLB player, retiring in 2001. He wrote Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big, in which he openly talked about the widespread steroid use in the game.
