Kerry Washington appears on the cover of the June issue of Elle, where she opens up about her career in Hollywood and her childhood.
The Scandal star called herself a “kooky theater kid” and a “silly and goofy and academic” when she was young. She also revealed she was striving to become a “clinical psychologist” because a career as an actress just didn’t seem like it was in the cards for her. “I was not that girl,” she explained.
Washington, who appeared in the Oscar nominated Django Unchained opposite Jamie Foxx, thinks that she is “the luckiest broad in Hollywood now.” She added “I don’t get to ask for more.”
She made her big screen debut in 2001 opposite Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance and now she’s arguably one of the most sought after women in the business.
The New York Daily News reports that she even talked about enjoying some of the perks that come along with that.
When it comes to making appearances on the red carpet, she’s starting to love getting ready.
“I found out I enjoy the process,” she said.. “All these people show up at my house, they all have kits, someone has dresses. And it’s like, let’s have fun.” She added, “It’s not all about me. We’re able to create stories on the red carpet.”
