Khloe Kardashian’s Rich Soil clothing line has pulled a New York-themed shirt after Gov. Andrew Cuomo threatened legal action because the logo on the shirt looked nearly identical to the state Department of Agriculture’s logo.
The New York Daily News reported on Friday that the governor’s office sent a cease and desist letter to Rich Soil, which is run by Kardashian and her husband, Lamar Odom. The $35 shirt in question features a logo that looks just like the “Pride of New York” logo the Department of Agriculture uses, except they replaced the phrase with “Rich Soil New York.” The label was given five days to comply or it would face a lawsuit from the state.
“The State of New York has invested substantial time, effort and resources creating the respect and goodwill associated with the trademark,” Susan Rosenthal, lawyer for the Department of Agriculture, wrote in the letter.
On Monday, the Daily News reported that Kardashian relented and the state won. The shirt was pulled from the website.
“I wish I could [comment] in some ways,” Cuomo told reporters with a smile on Monday, “because it would at least be a little more interesting than what I normally do.”
As The Huffington Post notes, this is hardly the first time Kardashian has had legal issues over a brand name. Earlier this month, the Kardashians had been ordered by a judge to change the name of the Khroma Beauty line to Kardashian Beauty.
