Michael Jackson’s family has offered a settlement in their wrongful-death lawsuit against Anschutz Entertainment Group, but their lawyers have yet to receive a response.
An attorney for the family released that settlement offers were made in January and March of this year. AEG was the promotion and production company that over saw the late-singer’s comeback tour in London. Jackson died after an overdose anesthetic propofol administered by Dr. Conrad Murray on June 25, 2009.
Jackson’s family alleges that AEG hired Murray negligently and did not supervise him to the fullest extent. Lawyers for AEG say that Jackson hired Murray himself.
According to The LA Times , Kevin Boyle, an attorney for the family, said that AEG has not offered to settle “and they haven’t apologized.”
Marvin Putnam, attorney for AEG, says that the claims made by the Jackson family are “utterly baseless” and not worth discussing with the press.
However, testimony from personnel at AEG Live implies that the company was aware of Jackson’s declining health. When Jackson missed a rehearsal and did not appear mentally prepared for his upcoming concerts, AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips alerted executives at AEG. “We have a real problem here,” Phillips wrote, as reported by The Washington Post .
The trial, which is in its fourth week, is expected to last at least another three months.
