Mitch then rounds up the family and asks them to not be so friendly with Teddy, that it makes Cam feel uncomfortable. Everyone thinks Cam is overreacting so they dismiss this. Later on Jay sits next to Cam and starts talking about how it’s weird that Teddy never found someone to settle down with. He was glad when Teddy and Mitch broke up. He says Teddy did not bring out the best of Mitch. Then he adds that when Cam and Mitch together it makes sense, they bring out the best of each other.

Haley and Alex sit with Manny and two boys approach them. The boys ask if they could sit there, and the girls tell Manny to leave. They all start flirting and Alex’s flirting is off and awkward. Haley pulls Alex aside and tells her she needs to stop being so mean. She understands she’s smart but needs to tone it down a bit. Alex says she doesn’t have to dumb down in order to get a guy to like her. Hailey then adds, she doesn’t have to do that. It’s all about giving the guy confidence. Alex follows Hailey’s advice and at the end of it admits that Haley is smart when it comes to boys. Then Haley smiles and says she will throw that in her face one day.

Claire has been ignoring Jay all day. Jay had asked Claire to see if she wanted to work for him. She recalls working for him when she was 20 and how bad it was. He was bossy and mean. She is also scared of disappointing him. It breaks her heart every time she does. Coincidently the skating rink they are at, she had worked there when she was younger. She starts talking to one of the employees about how she doesn’t want to work for her father. How she is not the same girl she was 20 years ago. Then it hits her, she is not the same girl she was back then, she is older and mature. She finally talks to Jay and accepts.

While all of this is happening Manny is assigned a paper. The assignment is to pick a family member who is a hero. He carries around a notepad with everyone’s name on it. As the day progresses he checks off people. Claire for drinking wine while taking care of his baby brother. Jay for making fun of Manny’s style. Haley and Alex for ditching and ignoring him. He eventually crosses everyone off then analyzes it all at the end. He comes up with the idea that the hero in his family is the whole family. Everyone in his family are heroes because of who they are together.
