NBC has greenlit Siberia, a scripted drama series about a reality show that doesn’t go as planned.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will start on July 1 at 10 p.m. It focuses on a group of 16 reality show contestants who are sent to a remote area of Siberia that was struck by a meteor back in 1908. One gets hurt and other strange events start happening, which means that there is more to the island than previously thought.
Jeff Bader, president of program planning, strategy and research for NBC Entertainment, called the project “compelling,” adding that, “We believe a scripted series that offers an insightful behind-the-scenes view of how a reality concept comes together — especially when things don’t go according to plan — will connect with our audience in a very satisfying way.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the show was created by Matthew Arnold and comes from Infinity Films, Sierra/Engine Television and Welldone Productions.
Siberia is just the latest program from the networks to prove that they will have shows on during the summer that are worth watching. CBS has its own high-profile summer series, Under The Dome, based on a Stephen King novel. The eye network also has new episodes of Unforgettable.
