Producers of the All My Children and One Life to Live online reboots have decided to cut back the release of new episodes to two days a week instead of four.
Starting Monday, May 20, new episodes of All My Children will now stream on Mondays and Wednesdays and new episodes of One Life to Live will stream on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to WeLoveSoaps.com
On Fridays, viewers can watch a special show dedicated to recapping the past week’s episodes on each show with interviews and commentary from All My Children and One Life to Live cast members and tidbits about upcoming storylines.
Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz, who own Prospect Park, the production company responsible for the shows, said viewers’ behavior prompted them to make the change. In a statement made Thursday, Frank and Kwatinetz, said that since both shows debuted two weeks ago, the viewing patterns of those watching are more similar to that of online shows than traditional television shows, as per The New York Times
It seems viewers are stockpiling episodes and watching them on the weekend, on their own schedules. “In the past these shows had their vast majority of views within the first 24 hours,” said Frank and Kwatinetz. “Instead, our shows are primarily consumed on different days than when they originally air.”
Both All My Children and One Life to Live are available to stream on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes.
