High-flying action, mind-blowing special effects mixed in with well-placed humor and secrets from the past only moderately sum up Star Trek Into Darkness.

Director/producer JJ Abrams is back as well as the crew of the USS Enterprise, Chris Pine as the cocky yet endearing Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as the enigmatic Commander Spock, Karl Urban as the snarky at times yet well-meaning Dr. Leonard McCoy, Zoe Saldana as no-nonsense Lt. Uhura, Anton Yelchin as the always helpful Ensign Pavel Chekov, John Cho as the resourceful Lt. Hikaru Sulu, and Simon Pegg as jokester Chief Engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. Bruce Greenwood also returns as Admiral Christopher Pike as well as Alice Eve, as a new science officer with a secret and the spectacular Benedict Cumberbatch of the PBS series Sherlock as the mysterious John Harrison.

Abrams brilliantly succeeds in bringing in elements from past Star Trek movies as well as the iconic television series. Diehard fans of both the motion pictures and the series will be sure to pick up on the barrage of references replete within the film.

This time around, the crew of the USS Enterprise is charged with stopping Harrison, an errant Starfleet officer resolved on destroying Starfleet (and San Francisco in the process) with a weapon of mass destruction. But, Harrison has a connection to an earlier installment of the Star Trek films that is sure to shock true fans of the franchise.

Pine and Quinto explore the relationship between Kirk and Spock as it deepens into the makings of unbreakable bond and friendship beyond even what they can comprehend. In addition, they both deal with the possibility of defying the cardinal rule, the Prime Directive. Meanwhile, Cumberbatch’s portrayal of the determined and intimidating Harrison makes him a villain moviegoers won’t soon forget.

The entire cast, new and returning, give warp drive worthy performances in Star Trek Into Darkness and Trekkies are sure to be on the edge of their seats for the entire movie.

Star Trek Into Darkness is a thrill ride from start to finish that will transport moviegoers to boldly go where they’ve gone before and enjoy every futuristic minute!
