Seth Meyers, fresh off the exciting news that he’ll be ascending the 12:35 am throne to replace Jimmy Fallon, talks about the format of Late Night under his lead.
After spending 12 years on the Saturday Night Live stage, Meyers is the new face of Late Night , and he says he’s changing a thing or two to keep audiences entertained and bring a personal touch to the comedy talk show.
“I don’t think I’ll start from Jimmy’s template,” The New York Post quotes Meyers, “I want Late Night to be a place like SNL, where writers are instructed to come up with whatever they want to, and then see if it’s produceable.”
This new approach to late night entertainment is not without some convention, such as monologues and celebrity interviews. Meyers’ twist will be the inclusion of recurring players who will perform comedy bits and play characters, similar to what audience’s enjoyed on “Weekend Update” during Meyer’s years as host.
Friends of Meyers are in full-support of his move to Late Night . Fellow SNL cast mate, Andy Samberg told MTV News , “I'm thrilled for Seth Meyers taking over Late Night. He's a good friend of mine and he's gonna kill it," while promoting his new sitcom.
Though SNL fans may find Meyers’ move to Late Night bittersweet, viewers can look forward to seeing Meyers on the sketch show “at least” the first half of the next season.
