Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi embraced the reality of the strained relationship between the cast of Jersey Shore and New Jersey governor Chris Christie following a painfully cordial conversation at Seaside Heights boardwalk.
According to the Asbury Park Press, Snooki and Governor Christie bumped into each other after taping for the Today Show. The segment was on the re-opening of the Seaside Heights boardwalk after Hurricane Sandy devastated the iconic summer spot last October.
Backstage, Snooki shook hands with the governor and told Christie, “I wanted to meet you and hoped that you’d start to like us.”
Christie smiled and responded cheerfully, “We’ll do our best. It was good to meet you,” then walked away after shaking hands with Snooki's Shore castmates, JWoww and Deena.
“He just doesn’t like us, that’s it,” Snooki said sadly before interviewing with someone else.
This is a fairly accurate assessment, considering that in 2011 Gov. Christie made his feelings about the Shore cast very clear by refusing to grant the show a tax break to cover production costs.
According to Yahoo! Christie explained this move, saying, “As chief executive I am duty-bound to ensure that taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the State and its citizens.”
Shortly after the encounter at the boardwalk today, Snooki posted a picture on Instagram of herself talking to Christie and wrote: “Getting told why we are bad for jersey. Amazing.”
