The 1990s were awesome. However, not all the shows doing that era still hold up. Some were just products of the time. There are other shows I like that will not be listed here such as Cousin Skeeter, 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Here is a list of some of the shows that are era-less:

10. Kenan and Kel

This 1990s Nickelodeon TV show stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell as two idiotic friends hatching idiotic plans. I liked this show when I was younger and I still watched this show on Teen Nick. The slapstick comedy can get annoying at times and Kel can be bothersome as the “dumb” character. However, the show still offers good comedy.

9. Family Matters and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

I like both of these shows. Steve Urkel from Family Matters is a clumsy outsider that likes a girl that doesn’t like him. I can relate in so many ways. He tries to impress people with his big brain but he fails and then in the end of every episode he redeems himself. The Fresh Prince is similar. Will Smith is an outsider among the Banks because of socio-economic issues. He comes from a poor part of Philadelphia and now he lives in a rich community. The first seasons of these shows were not the best in my opinion. Season 3 and up are the best for both shows.

8. Hey Arnold

Arnold is a football headed do- gooder that helps people in his neighborhood. I like this show primarily for the supporting characters. Helga is mean but she is the most complex character on the show. Arnold was bland but everyone else around him made the show entertaining.

7. Sister, Sister

This show focused on the lost twins Tia and Tamara. The two moved in together and they had to learn to get along with one another. This show had some of the same socio-economic issues The Fresh Prince had, especially in the early seasons. I like this show because it had interesting supporting characters like Roger and Jackee Harris’s character. Roger was like Steve Urkel but not a genius. He likes the twins but they don’t like him. Overall, if you like The Fresh Prince and Family Matters; you will like this show.

6. So Weird

This was one the scariest shows I have ever seen. I enjoyed this show because of the paranormal investigations and mysteries. The basic premise of the show is that a family is touring around the country playing their music and they happen to get into strange situations. The seasons with Fiona were the best. The later seasons were fine but not as good. So if you like Supernatural and Twilight Zone, this is the show to watch.

5. The Famous Jett Jackson

This is fantastic because of three things: spies, southern living, and the metaphysical. When you watch a show like this you begin to understand the hardships child actors have to deal with. Lee Thompson Young is fantastic as Silverstone and Jett Jackson. He has to deal with super-villains, high school, and girls. The supporting characters are cool too. This show has action and drama and some comedy.

4. Smart Guy

This is another geeky-outcast show. TJ is a preteen genius that has skipped middle school and now goes to high school with his older siblings. This clearly makes him a target for bullying but he tries to figure out ways to fit in with the older students. This show has some of the best comedy I have seen from the 1990s and the show deals with issues such as body image and racial discrimination.

3. Animaniacs

This was one of the best animated cartoons ever produced. The Warners are siblings Yakko, Wakko, and Dot who live on the Warner Bros Lot. The show follows them as they cause mischief. This show has many different segments in it such as: Pinky and the Brain, Slappy Squirrel and Skippy Squirrel, Rita and Runt, Buttons and Mindy, Chicken Boo, Flavio and Marita (The Hip Hippos), Katie Ka-Boom, a trio of pigeons known as The Goodfeathers, and Minerva Mink.

2. Boy Meets World

This show is an American classic. What makes this show so fantastic is that we see Cory grow up from small boy to grown man. His relationships with Sean, Mr. Finney, Topanga, and his family grow over the course of an entire show. That is rare in today’s entertainment world. Cory is one of the most developed characters in the history of TV.

1. Recess and The Adventures of Pete and Pete

The last two shows on this list are some of the best TV shows in the history of television. Recess is a kid’s show that features a leader, tom-girl, athlete, nerd, artsy kid, and a military brat having strange missions during recess. Every character is based on their interests but as the seasons of the show progress we learn about them. This show has many elements such as sci-fi, western, espionage and super heroes.
Pete and Pete is the darkest Nickelodeon show ever produced. I like this show because it has some of the same wackiness as Recess. There are two brothers both named Pete. The younger Pete is a troublemaker has a tattoo on his arm. The older brother is the normal one. Their mother has a metal plate in her head. You really have to watch the show to get it. There are elements of sci-fi, super heroes, westerns, espionage, and fantasy.
