The May 23, 2013 episode of the Daily Show focuses on the recent IRS scandal, the presidential administration’s actions, and Morgan Freeman’s take on physics.

The episode begins with Jon Stewart discussing President Barak Obama’s recent address about the over zealous fight against terror and the effect it may have on us and our morals. Stewart follows this up by talking about the administration’s priorities and what they do versus what they say they will do and then do not. This segment is basically a run down of the administration charging people for leaking information, marijuana, and hacking. Stewart says that if you can be played by Kevin Smith, then you are in trouble.

The second segment is a report by Jason Jones. Jones is reporting on the recent IRS scandal where the IRS has allegedly been targeting conservative groups. Jones is interviewing Wayn Allen Root who claims the IRS targeted him for speaking out against Obama. Jones wants to make fun of him for it, but, even though he has no proof, it is not an outrageous claim in and of itself. The outrageous part is that he is claiming he has been profiled and that this is an inappropriate time to use profiling. He has said, in the past, that the way to fight crime and terrorism is to adopt the Israeli model of profiling. Root argues in the interview that profiling by the police does not ruin a person’s life, but the profiling by the IRS can ruin lives. Jones then points out that, of course, profiling has ruined and even ended lives. Jones then brings in three individual who have experiences profiling on a regular basis, an African American, Dominican, and Muslim American. Root then tried to explain to them why his profiling was different and worse. Their response was to explain how the profiling was, in fact, much worse. Root did not seem convinced, but Jones did a good job setting up situation for the viewer.

The guest for this episode is Morgan Freeman promoting Now You See. They spend all of a few seconds on the film with Stewart arguing that since Freeman is in it, then it must be good. They spent the rest of the time talking about Freeman’s interactions with physicists. He even explains to Stewart about the multiple universe ideas. I will not go into too much detail, because I think everyone should hear about these things in Freeman’s voice. You can either do that on this interview or when his show, Through the Wormhole, starts back up in June.
