Vampire Diaries co-stars and off-screen couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have split after three years of dating.
Dobrev and Somerhalder kept their relationship quiet for a while when they first starting dating, but eventually it came out that they were romantically involved. Dobrev talked about it last fall, telling Seventeen magazine they couldn’t fight their “connection.”
“I didn't want to be dating one of my costars," she said at the time. "My goal on the show was to be professional. But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long – which I did for a really, really long time."
Despite being spotted together just last month, People confirms they have split.
Moreover, a source told Us Weekly of the split they "will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started,” adding that they are "consummate professionals.”
The Vampire Diaries was picked up for a fifth season so it looks like they won’t be able to escape each other after the break-up.
